The iPad Pro 2 is not the only Apple solution gadget freaks have been clamoring for. Aside from the new iPad, the Cupertino-based tech firm is expected to come out with a new line of desktop products this month, the iMac 2017.

While details about an alleged iMac refresh are hard to come by, optimistic tech pundits suggest Apple is gearing up to unveil a whole new slew of desktop products in March this year. The company has left no stone unturned in their bid to keep the iMac 2017 under wraps; however, the long-rumored device has been subject to umpteen rumors and leaks.

In line with this, Best Buy accidentally spilled the beans about a new iMac 2017 with 27-inch Retina 5K display by posting the device's product page not too long ago. But MacWorld suggested at the time that this might merely be a placeholder created by an employee until official information is made public.

It's worth noting that placeholders are ideally created by retailers such as Best Buy when they are notified about an impending product launch. This was enough to raise hopes of those who have been restlessly waiting for the iMac 2017.

Another sign that Apple could indeed be hard at works on a 2017 variant of the iMac is the transcript of an internal Q&A event involving the company's CEO, Tim Cook, and Apple staff. TechCrunch acquired the recording where Cook addressed a longtime concern of the employees explaining that the company has great desktops in their roadmap and there's no need to worry about it.

Cook even pointed out that the desktop is quite strategic for the company not only because it's unique but also because it can pack more performance compared to the notebook. The desktop can be equipped with a more comprehensive array of I/O, fastest performance, the largest screens, maximum memory, and storage to name just a few. Multiple sources have alluded to this as an indication that an iMac 2017 could be just around the corner.

iMac 2017 Specs & Features

Despite the lack of official announcement, the internet is rife with reports centering on the new iMac's specs and features. The iMac 2017 could be powered by Intel's latest Core i7-7700 Kaby Lake chip clocked at 4.2 GHz and a Polaris 10 chip from AMD, according to MobiPicker.

Several reports even hint at a possible integration of VR technology on 2017 iMac. However, Oculus co-founder Nate Mitchell debunked these speculations explaining that the support for the latest iMac is not part of the company's roadmap for at least about the next six months.
