Google recently mentioned that they will be focusing much of their efforts on their smaller devices moving forward. Based on the announcement, it will likely be safe to assume that the company might already have a few products in mind to be released this year. Among those products is the highly awaited new flagship tablet from the company, the 2017 Google Nexus 7.

The company's intention of sticking to its smaller products, such as the recently launch Pixel smartphones and the Google Home speaker, has of course been made apparent with the cancellation of their Google Chromebook Pixel laptops. Seeing as that there will probably be no new Chromebook Pixel models, all eyes are now on the company's upcoming 2017 Google Nexus 7 tablet.

Google Nexus 7 Operating System

According to a report from Android Police, the upcoming Google Nexus 7 tablet has long been rumored to be coming with a brand new operating system from Google called Google Andromeda OS. However, several sources have claimed that this will likely not be the case as having more than one operating system would only serve to create more confusion amongst consumers and developers.

The report further states that having the latest version of Android, Android 7.1 Nougat, would make a lot more sense as it will be more familiar to users worldwide. However, there is also the distinct possibility that Google may go in a completely different direction and pre-install Chrome OS instead.

Google Nexus 7 Hardware Specs

The brand new tablet is expected to be coming with some high-end specs to rival that of other tablet offerings such as the recently released Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. The 2017 Google Nexus 7 will reportedly be sporting a 7-inch AMOLED display with a 2560 x 1440 resolution. The tablet will also likely be coming with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor paired with 4 GB of RAM. The Nexus 7 will likely be offered in a 64 GB of internal storage configuration and possibly sport a USB Type-C port.
