Microsoft Surface Phone Pushed Back Release; Windows Phone To Launch This Year

A recent report suggested that the Microsoft Surface Phone release was pushed back. Reports claim that this delay was intentionally done to give way to a different Windows 10 Phone model that will be given a priority release this 2017.

The news came from a Reddit user, zombieacc, who said that there would be a new Windows Phone flagship killer set to release this year. According to this former employee of one of Microsoft's contractors, this particular phone is not the highly anticipated Microsoft Surface Phone. Instead, it will be a new Windows Phone that so little has an idea about. He also said that the Surface Phone would still be released but most likely in 2018 or 2019.

It appears that Microsoft may still be planning to unveil their flagship killer. It is just that the company is maybe taking its time in coming up with one as it learns from its previous failure with the Lumia. Although Microsoft is already a big name in the tech industry, Lumia's failure taught them that getting into an established market dominated by Androids and iOS is not an easy undertaking.

If indeed, the Microsoft Surface Phone will be delayed this year, then most likely the speculated Snapdragon 835 and 6GB RAM might be for the new Windows Phone 2017 as what the tipster said. Moreover, the Reddit user added that Microsoft is not giving up on the Surface Phone and wondered on why the company has not spoken about the Windows 10 Phone.

Meanwhile, a recent patent showing that the company is working on a hybrid smartphone and a tablet also surfaced. It described a foldable phone, which will function as a phone when folded and as a tablet when not. This has triggered many analysts to speculate that this patent could possibly be the Windows Phone the Reddit user was referring to.

However, several reports claim that this technology is reserved by the company for the upcoming Surface Phone. Microsoft, on their end, at present, has not yet given their statement concerning this latest claims.
