Google Outlines Android O Changes and Features in New Video

Google is currently now busy developing their latest mobile operating system version, Android O, and getting it ready for a 2017 release. The company has also already rolled out the developer preview version of the new operating system to give app developers a chance to test out their software on the updated platform.

The developer's beta version of Android O was rolled out earlier in the week and Google also released a brand new video that highlights some of the big changes they have made to Android. Google outlined what developers should be preparing for if they want to have their apps run properly on the newly updated software.

As per a report from The New York Times, the latest Android version is still pretty much in its testing stages and there is still a lot of tweaks and bug fixes to be done. The company is, of course, open to feedback and input from the different Android developers, which means that the features and changes aren't really final.

Some of the biggest changes in the new Android O version is the addition of background restrictions. This basically limits the access of different apps to the device's resources when they are not actively being used. This move should drastically improve the operating system's speed and the device's battery life.

According to Android Police, several changes have also been implemented to the different animations within the user interface. One such change is the cool new animation when closing or opening the top notifications bar. Several icons now appear for each notification type.

Speaking of which, Android O also brings with it a new notification channel feature, wherein each app's push notifications can be arranged in different categories. Users can opt to silence a certain category while allowing other notifications to go through. Android O also offers a myriad of other useful new features, including Autofill, Picture-in-picture mode, a new launcher, and many others.
