On Thursday, Oct. 11, Samsung lifted the curtains off its hotly-anticipated Galaxy S3 Mini, a smaller version of its flagship Galaxy S3. The design of the Galaxy S3 Mini is similar to the Galaxy S3; however, the hardware of the S3 Mini is not the same as the Galaxy S3.
Here is a look at the features of both the devices:
Processor
Samsung Galaxy S3 features a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 4 processor. On the other hand, a 1GHz dual-core processor powers the latest Galaxy S3 Mini.
Display
The Galaxy S3 sports a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. As the name suggest, the Galaxy S3 Mini has a smaller 4-inch Super AMOLED WVGA display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution.
Weight, Thickness, and Body
The Galaxy S3 measure 5.38 x 2.78 x 0.34 inches and weighs 4.6 ounces and is slightly thinner than the Galaxy S3 Mini, which has 4.8 x 2.48 x 0.39 inches dimensions. The Galaxy S3 Mini weighs 3.9 ounces which makes it a bit lighter than the Galaxy S3.
Storage and Memory
The Galaxy S3 offers 16/32/64GB of internal storage with the option to expand to up to 64GB using a microSD card. On the other hand the Galaxy S3 Mini offers 8/16GB of on-board storage and using a microSD card the storage can be expanded to 32GB.
Both the smartphones include 1GB of RAM.
Camera
The Galaxy S3 Mini features a VGA front-facing camera and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash. The Galaxy S3, on the other hand, features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and autofocus, and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera.
Software
The Galaxy S3 Mini will come pre-loaded with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). The Galaxy S3, on the other hand, comes with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) out of the box. However, the Jelly Bean upgrade for the Galaxy S3 is currently being pushed out in Europe.
Battery, Connectivity, and Colors
The Galaxy S3 Mini includes a 1500mAh battery as opposed to a powerful 2100mAh battery of the Galaxy S3.
Keeping abreast with the latest connectivity technology, both the handsets are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Near Field Communication (NFC) capable.
The Galaxy S3 was initially launched in Pebble Blue and Marble White colors; however, Samsung has introduced many more colors of the flagship smartphone. The Galaxy S3 Mini has been announced only in white. Users may expect various colors of Galaxy S3 Mini, just like the Galaxy S3, in the near term. No information on the Mini's pricing and exact release date is currently available.
