Samsung recently announced its Galaxy S3 Mini, adding to its growing portfolio of smartphones and the Galaxy family of devices. Nokia too launched its Lumia 920 in September and with both the smartphones slated for a November release, it is anybody's guess which device will strike a chord with the consumers.
Here's how the two upcoming smartphones - the Galaxy S3 Mini and Lumia 920 - stack up against each other.
The Galaxy S3 Mini features a dual-core processor that is clocked at 1GHz, whereas the Lumia 920 has a faster 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, which Qualcomm claims has "best in-class performance."
The Galaxy S3 Mini sports a 4-inch Super AMOLED WVGA display vis-à-vis the Lumia 920's bigger 4.5-inch AMOLED PureMotion HD+ display. The Galaxy S3 Mini and Lumia 920 offer a pixel resolution of 800 x 480 and 1280 x 768, respectively. Additionally, the Lumia 920 betters the Galaxy S3 Mini with 332 ppi versus 223 ppi.

The Lumia 920 measures 5.1 x 2.8 x 0.42 inches, compared to Galaxy S3 Mini's 4.8 x 2.48 x 0.39 inches. The Lumia 920 is slightly taller and wider than the Galaxy S3 Mini, as well as thicker. Weight wise, at 4.23 ounces, the Galaxy S3 Mini is much lighter than the Lumia 920 which weighs 6.52 ounces.
Storage and Memory
The Galaxy S3 Mini offers both 8GB and 16GB of internal memory, compared to Lumia 920's 32GB option. However, only Galaxy S3 Mini has the option to expand the memory (up to 32GB) using a microSD card, unlike the Lumia 920.
Both smartphones offer 1GB of RAM.
The Galaxy S3 Mini features a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera (2592 x 1944 pixels) with autofocus and LED flash. The Galaxy S3 Mini will come pre-loaded with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Lumia 920 will run on Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 OS.
A 1500mAh battery fuels the Galaxy S3 Mini. By comparison, a more powerful 2000mAh battery powers the Lumia 920 and supports 17 hours and 10 hours of talk time on 2G and 3G, respectively. Details of the Galaxy S3 Mini's talk times are not currently available.
Both smartphones are NFC and Wi-Fi enabled. The Galaxy S3 Mini offers Bluetooth 4.0 unlike Lumia 920, which offers Bluetooth 3.0. However, the Luma 920 has 4G LTE and wireless charging capabilities which are not there in the Galaxy S3 Mini.
