Samsung Stratosphere 2 Hitting Retail Stores?

Anu Passary

Samsung's ever-growing portfolio of devices will soon see a new phone, the Stratosphere 2, which will be available on U.S. carrier Verizon per leaks. Last week, leaked images of the Samsung Stratosphere surfaced on the Internet and now more leaks indicate that the device will be hitting retail stores soon.

Leaked advertisements have revealed that the Stratosphere 2 is featured in several promotional flyers of retail stores like Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, and BJ's.

Last week, a leaked image on Twitter showed off the front and back of the Stratosphere 2 or SCH-I415 with a Verizon brand logo on the top front and middle back of the device. The leak did not  disclose the phone's specification, but the image indicated that like its predecessor the Stratosphere 2 will have a slide QWERTY keyboard.

Now, according to a Droid-Life report, dummy units of the Samsung Stratosphere 2 have reached retail stores.

"Dummy units for the phone are arriving in stores (mostly 3rd party retailers), which is usually a good indicator that it'll be available for purchase soon. We have already seen holiday promos for the device in stores, so I can't imagine we'll be waiting much longer, reported Droid-Life.

What's more the leaked Wal-Mart Black Friday advertisement reveals that the retail chain would be offering several Android-powered smartphones and tablets, which includes the Samsung Stratosphere 2 for $49.88 on a new Verizon two-year contract. Leaked advertisements from Radio Shack and wholesale club BJ's also suggest that Verizon would be selling Samsung Stratosphere 2. RadioShack would offer the phone for free on a two-year contract on Verizon, whereas BJ's is offering a $50 savings for a limited period.

The Stratosphere 2 is expected to sport a 4-inch Super AMOLED display. A dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor is expected to power the smartphone. The 4G LTE-enabled Stratosphere 2 will likely have an 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 8GB of on-board storage with the option to expand to a further 32GB using a microSD card. The phone will likely run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

With Samsung and Verizon yet to confirm any details, the much-rumored Stratosphere 2's pricing is likely to start at $99 on contract.
