Listening to music online is always a great way find new songs one has never heard before. Internet radio is considered a better option than normal radio due to the large amount of options available to the listener. TuneIn Radio attempt to combine many of these options in a single package.

The question is, does it work? Well, it does for the most part. However, there are a few problems with the app that hinders it from achieving greatness and immortality.

Pros:

  • Many radio stations to choose from
  • Local radio
  • Able to search for station by name
  • Clear sound

Cons:

  • Design is lacking
  • Tiles are too small
  • Navigation is a pain
  • Ugly backgrounds

TuneIn Radio is one of those apps that is used by many radio station listeners all around the world. Apart from being available for Windows 8, the TuneIn Radio app can also be found on Android, iOS, and Windows Phone. There is no desktop client. However, the service is available on the TuneIn Radio Web site, which makes a desktop client unnecessary.

The Windows 8 version of TuneIn Radio is lacking in too many areas. Therefore, it cannot be placed on the same level as its counterparts on mobile. The app brings to its users a vast amount of radio stations, this includes local radio, but only the ones with a Web presence as one would expect from an Internet radio app.

Look and Feel

The developers fell short in the design aspect of TuneIn Radio, and that is its biggest shortcomings. Users will realize that the tiles are too small and cluttered together, making for displeasing look. Browsing through radio stations is an easy roll of the mouse wheel or a swipe on the screen. However, because the tiles are so small, it is not easy to read the name of the radio station since the text is small as well.

There is a background for every category, many of which are not easy on the eyes. Don't expect to have the option to change these images, because TuneIn Radio does not give the user the choice of customizing the look of the app.

Features

Not many features to be found here, but when it comes to radio stations of all sorts, TuneIn Radio does an incredible job. Users have the ability to view information on what is playing, along with adding a radio station to Favorites, and that is as far as customization goes for TuneIn Radio.

Conclusion

TuneIn Radio is the best radio station app in the Windows 8 Store, make no mistake of that. Unfortunately, it falls short in areas that matter a lot, which means many users might find some aspect of TuneIn Radio difficult to use, and that shouldn't be the case when it comes to a Windows 8 application.
