Prior to its press conference on Monday, Jan.7 at the CES 2013, Samsung has given fans a peek into what to expect. The company announced two additions to its Series 7 PC line-up - the new Series 7 Ultra ultrabook and the enhanced Series 7 Chronos - which it will show off at the CES.
The first model in the Series 7 Ultra, 730U3E, "embodies superior mobility and performance in an ultra-slim and light, full aluminum body." Samsung claims that is has been "designed as the ultimate ultrabook for multimedia." It will be available in both touch as well as non-touch variants.
The new ultrabook sports a 13.3-inch Full HD display (1920 x 1080 pixels) with 10-finger multitouch support. The laptop's display is both wider and brighter than previous models and the ultrabook packs in a 178-degree viewing angle. The ultrabook can be picked up with either Intel i5 or Intel i7 processors and packs in the Windows 8 OS. The device also packs in AMD HD8570M graphics and up to a 256GB SSD. The ultrabook will offer up to eight hours of battery life and will also be available with 4G LTE connectivity. The ports include one USB 3.0, two UUSB 2.0, HDMI, mini VGA, and headphone in/out as well as microphone in/out. The device's keyboard is backlit and has a slim security slot "to ensure that the device is securely tethered" when required.
"2012 was a definitive year for Samsung's PC business - we expanded our lineup, taking advantage of the new form factors and consumer demand. This led to significant growth in the industry," said David Song, Samsung's SVP of IT and Mobile Communications. "In 2013, we will continue to focus on innovation delivering products that fit into customer lifestyles while maintaining Samsung's high-end design and performance standards. The new Series 7 Chronos and Ultra products are just two examples of what you can expect to see from us throughout the year."
The Series 7 Chronos (770Z5E) has a 15.6-inch Full HD display (1920 x 1080 pixels) with 300nit brightness and 10-finger multitouch support. Under the hood, it packs in a quad-core Intel i7 3635QM 2.4GHz processor and Windows 8 OS.It has been refreshed with new AMD Radeon HD 8870M GPU.
It has 4GB of RAM that can be boosted to 16GB, 2 USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, VGA, as well as heaphone and microphone in/out. The enhanced device measures 14.80 x 9.84 x 0.82 inches, weighs 5.18 pounds and offers up to 11 hours of battery life.
