All those owners of Motorola's Droid 4 on Verizon network out there, get ready as your wait for a Jelly Bean update is going to end in just some hours.

"The DROID 4 by Motorola will soon be upgraded to Android 4.1, Jelly Bean. The software upgrade will be pushed to customers in phases starting March 19," Verizon says in a release.

The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is going to bring so many new and exciting features to the 4-inch slider smartphone.

The update will also enhance the performance of the devices as it comes with some enhancements such as:

  • Improved voice and data connectivity
  • Calendar settings have been improved for a better user experience
  • Improved reliability and connectivity of Back Up Assistant Plus and Visual Voicemail
  • Mobile Hotspot data connectivity has been improved
  • Sling and MOG application preloads have been removed

The new firmware is expected to improve the user interface (UI) of the Droid 4 and also add some more features with making the keyboard and the touchscreen more responsive.

The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will deliver some more features to the smartphone:

Voice Search: Sometimes you'd rather just speak your search query. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean lets you search the Web with your voice, and it's convenient for getting quick answers. It speaks back to you and is powered by the Knowledge Graph, bringing you precise answers and ranked search results.

Notifications: Take action directly from the notifications panel. Send emails, return calls, share photos and more. Notifications are expandable and you scan multiple emails, see event details or full images and more.

Smart Keyboard: More accurate and relevant dictionaries have been implemented. Jelly Bean's keyboard guesses the next word before you type it and voice typing now works even when you don't have a data connection. Text-to-Speech capabilities have been improved.

Google Now: Just the right information at just the right time. Get today's weather before you start your day and know when the next train will arrive as you're standing on the platform. Cards appear throughout the day automatically.

The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update 98.72.18.XT894.Verizon.en.US for Droid 4 users is available for over the air (OTA) update, and can be installed by following steps:

Note: Before starting the update, keep in mind that the file size of the update is quite big at 356 MB and takes about 30-35 minutes to download. In order to save your data usage, initiate the download when you in Wi-Fi connectivity.

Keep the battery of your phone fully charged to avoid sudden death during the installation as the installation process may take longer than expected.

1.       From the Home screen, tap the Menu Key > tap Settings > About phone > System updates > Download.

2.       Once the download has completed, tap Install now. The device will power off and back on and show a progress bar and an installing icon. Once installation is complete the device powers off and back on again, finalizing the installation.

3.       You will get a confirmation on the screen that your install was successful, then tap OK.
