The recently-launched Nokia Lumia 1020 is now available for pre-order unlocked, sporting a $735.50 price tag.
The Lumia 1020 is the company's latest flagship running on Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 (WP8) mobile operating system. The most impressive feature of this smartphone, however, is its whopping 41-megapixel camera.
Nokia launched its first 41-megapixel camera smartphone last year as the 808 PureView, but the outdated Symbian operating system significantly trumped the smartphone's potential. With the new Lumia 1020, Nokia brings that superior camera technology to the Windows Phone 8 platform.
The new 41-megapixel Lumia smartphone is an AT&T exclusive, which means that interested buyers cannot get the subsidized handset from other carriers. Those who want to purchase the unlocked Nokia Lumia 1020, however, can now do so from Negri Electronics. The retailer started taking pre-orders for the white, black, and yellow versions of the handset, promising to ship it to customers on July 26.
Those who don't mind the AT&T exclusivity, meanwhile, will be able get the subsidized smartphone from either AT&T or the Microsoft Store. Microsoft already put up a pre-registration page for the Nokia Lumia 1020, allowing potential buyers to subscribe for regular updates about the handset. Interested customers can also pre-register on AT&T's landing page and get regular updates on the Lumia 1020.
It's also worth mentioning that customers who purchase the AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020 through the Microsoft Store will get the Nokia Camera Grip accessory for free. Only the Negri Electronics offer, however, involves the unlocked version of the smartphone.
Aside from the massive 41-megapixel camera, the Nokia Lumia 1020 sports a 4.5-inch AMOLED PureMotion HD+ display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 (WXGA), a pixel density of 334 pixels-per-inch (ppi) and 16:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the smartphone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. A 2,000 mAH battery will offer up to 13.3 hours of talk time on 3G and 384 hours of standby time.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 should arrive on July 26, regardless of whether customers choose the AT&T exclusive or the unlocked version from Negri Electronics.
