The Nokia Lumia 1020 just got more affordable, as Amazon is offering the smartphone for $249.99 on a two-year contract with AT&T.
With a whopping 41-megapixel camera, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is likely the best camera phone ever. It builds on Nokia's 808 PureView smartphone from last year, but instead of the outdated Symbian operating system the Lumia 1020 runs on Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 (WP8) OS.
Nokia's new camera smartphone stirred quite some waves due to its great camera capabilities. In addition to that massive 41-megapixel sensor, the Lumia 1020 also comes with improved PureView technology, optical image stabilization (OIS), Carl Zeiss lens and many such goodies.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 did, however, have a big flaw: its pricing. While consumers are mostly used to paying $199.99 for a new flagship smartphone on a two0year contract, Nokia's latest powerhouse came with a steep $299.99 price tag. In other words, this means a $100 premium for that high-end camera. Not that the phone is not worth its price tag, it even comes with 32GB of internal storage and the same thing cannot be said about most $199.99 smartphones, but many consumers still found it too pricey.
Amazon now aims to attract more buyers to the Nokia Lumia 1020 by reducing the smartphone's price tag. With the new offer, interested buyers can get the smartphone for $50 less than they would normally pay if they made their purchase from AT&T.
The retailer launched the Nokia Lumia 1020 late last month for $269.99. That was already cheaper than AT&T's asking price of $299.99, but Amazon now slashed the price tag even more to offer the smartphone for $249.99.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 is an AT&T exclusive and the two-year contract is mandatory if you want to benefit from Amazon's offer. The price is the same for both new and existing AT&T customers who are looking for an upgrade.
Amazon is offering the AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020 in white, black, or yellow color options. If Amazon continues applying discounts at this rate, the Lumia 1020 may soon be on par with other high-end flagships in terms of pricing, dropping to $199.99 in a few weeks. There's no guarantee this will happen anytime soon, however, so for now the $50 discount is the best offer.
