Nestle's German KitKat team apparently confirmed that Android 4.4 KitKat will make its grand debut in October.
While the general belief was that the next version of Google's popular mobile operating system would be Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, the company recently announced that it would continue with Android 4.4 KitKat.
Google did not, however, offer any timeframe or additional details as to when the new OS would arrive. Asked about the Android 4.4 KitKat availability, the German KitKat team promptly responded that it would arrive next month.
"Android 4.4 KIT KAT is available in October," would read the translation of the German KitKat team's response on its Facebook page.
Previous rumors suggested that Android 4.4 KitKat would make its debut on Oct. 14 along with the next-generation Nexus smartphone. Google has not officially confirmed anything yet, but the company does tend to release each version of its Android mobile OS alongside a new device.
Rumors about an LG Google Nexus 5 smartphone have also been intensifying as of late, suggesting an imminent release. This would fall in line with Google's previous launch schedules and the October timeframe seems very likely for unveiling the next-generation Nexus smartphone.
Google has already launched its refreshed Nexus 7 tablet along with the new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but that OS version was not the major iteration everyone is waiting for.
With the new Nexus 7 already out, the recently-announced Android 4.4 KitKat should make its debut either on the Nexus 5 or on the next Nexus 10 tablet. While there is not much known at this point regarding a new Nexus 10 slate, a mysterious smartphone made an appearance in the Android 4.4 KitKat unveiling video. Google has since taken down the video in question, but the general belief is that the smartphone spotted there was the upcoming Nexus 5.
Moreover, an intriguing Nexus smartphone was also spotted in the wild recently. Google may have not officially confirmed its plans, but all signs point in the same direction: an imminent debut for both the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat. If Nestle's German KitKat team is correct, Google will have some big news shortly. Stay tuned.
