The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and a high-end Samsung flip-phone have passed through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), suggesting an imminent launch.
A leaked image of the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini recently made its way online and now it seems the device is close to making its official debut on Big Red's network. The FCC has just certified the Galaxy S4 Mini for Verizon.
According to new FCC documentation, the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini sports the model number SCH-1435. The device comes as a smaller, lower-specced version of the company's current flagship smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini sports a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and a pixel density of 256 pixels per inch (ppi). Under the hood, the smartphone packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.7GHz and paired with 1.5GB of RAM.
Other specs include 8GB of internal storage capacity, a microSD card slot for additional memory of up to 64GB, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing shooter. In terms of connectivity, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC. The handset packs a 1,900 mAh removable battery and runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Samsung's upcoming Android flip-phone passed through the FCC as well, sporting some high-end specs and features, along with the model number SM-W2014. According to the FCC listing, the flip-phone will sport two 3.7-inch WVGA Super AMOLED displays - one on the inside and one on the outside, for when the handset is closed.
The upcoming Samsung flip-phone will pack the latest quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM, which should make it very fast and responsive. The handset will boast a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front shooter. Moreover, the device will come with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board. In other words, all signs point to an effort from Samsung's part to take flip-phones to the next level.
While the Galaxy S4 Mini received certification for Verizon's network, it remains unclear at this point just which carriers will be offering the upcoming Samsung flip-phone. Considering that it boasts high-end specs, however, it will likely attract plenty of customers who love the flip-phone design.
