HP has expanded its lineup with the new HP Pavilion 10 TouchSmart, a mid-range Windows 8 mini notebook with a touchscreen display.
The new HP TouchSmart 10 is the company's cheapest and smallest notebook so far, sporting a 10-inch display, as the name suggests.
HP's new Pavilion 10 TouchSmart packs an AMD A4-1200 "Temash" processor under the hood, which is a low-power chip that provides moderate performance. The notebook also comes with AMD Radeon HD 8180 graphics.
The base model of the HP TouchSmart comes with 2GB of RAM and a 320 hard drive. In terms of connectivity, this model offers one USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output, an SD card reader, and an Ethernet jack. The notebook also features Wi-Fi, but no Bluetooth.
If this base model doesn't suffice, interested buyers can also customize the HP Pavilion TouchSmart by adding Bluetooth and choosing a bigger 500GB hard drive if they place their order directly with HP. The company is also selling an HDMI to VGA adapter for an additional $30.
According to HP, the 10-inch notebook packs a 3-cell battery that should provide up to five hours of battery life. It's a decent battery performance considering the price tag, although other 2013 laptops are superior in this department.
The HP TouchSmart 10 runs Microsoft's latest Windows 8.1 operating system and comes with Office 2013 Home and Student Edition included. In terms of dimensions, the mini notebook measures 10.7 x 7.7 x 0.9 inches and weighs just 3.2 pounds.
When it comes to pricing, it depends on where you make your purchase. HP sells the notebook for a $349.99 starting price on its website, while the Microsoft Store offers the exact same device for a notably lower price tag of $299. On the other hand, those who opt to purchase the HP Pavilion TouchSmart 10 from the Microsoft Store in order to pay less will not be able to make customizations.
If you want to add Bluetooth and the larger-capacity 500GB hard drive, you have to make your purchase from HP, which means paying more.
