Sony has quietly unveiled two new handsets, the phablet-sized Xperia T2 Ultra and the new Xperia E1 aimed at music lovers.

The company recently took the wraps off its new Xperia Z1S and Xperia Z1 Compact at the CES 2014 trade show, but it was obviously not done. While Sony was expected to unveil more devices at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February, the company has quietly introduced new handsets now.

"Xperia E1 combines the best of Sony's audio technologies with a premium design and great hardware to create a smartphone for people who want to express themselves out loud," said Calum MacDougall, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications. "It's a new, music focused player in our Xperia line-up that is underpinned by the best of Sony's design, display and content offers."

Both the Xperia E1 and the Xperia T2 Ultra are entertainment-oriented and come with optional dual-SIM support. As the name itself suggests, the Xperia E1 is the successor of the budget-friendly Xperia E that made its debut back in 2012. The new iteration boasts Sony's latest audio technology, including a 100Db loudspeaker for loud and clear sound. According to the company, the Xperia E1 is the "best in its class."

"Xperia E1 is mid-tier smartphone with seriously premium credentials. A solid feel, fast processor and vivid 4" display combined with fast data speeds provide an all round performance that is unrivalled by any other phone in its class, whilst its audio experience and content offer provides real differentiation," adds the press release.

On the audio front, the Xperia E1 sports xLoud and ClearAudio + enhancements, as well as shake-to-shuffle functionality and a dedicated Walkman button. Sony is also throwing in a 30-day pass for the Entertainment Network music streaming service.

In terms of specifications, the new Sony Xperia E1 sports a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen display, a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage capacity, and a 1,700 mAh battery. The handset also features a 3-megapixel rear camera, HSPA+ connectivity, and runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra, meanwhile, is a large-screen smartphone with a 6-inch display, likely aiming to compete with the Nokia Lumia 1320 and Samsung's much-rumored Galaxy Note 3 Neo. The handset shares some of the features found on the Xperia Z and Z1 smartphones, but it's not that high-end. It comes with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board and boasts the same 13-megapixel Sony Exmor RS sensor, but the Triluminos display has 720p resolution. The Xperia T2 Ultra also packs a quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage capacity, and a 3,000 mAh battery. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and LTE.

Sony has yet to offer any details regarding the Xperia E1 an Xperia T2 Ultra's pricing and availability, but the company is expected to offer more information soon.
