LG Smart TV Streams Google Play Movies And TV

Nov 17, 2015 11:47 PM EST

It has just been confirmed that LG Smart TV will now be getting a boost from Google by playing Google Play Movies and TV. Starting next month, LG Smart TV owners in the US will be able to enjoy thousands of TV shows and movies that are available at Google Play Movies & TV.

LG smart TVs including all those using the webOS platform and the other earlier NetCast 4.0 and 4.5 versions will be receiving an update giving them access to the Play Movies & TV service of Google. Though this service is already a familiar fixture to Android device owners, this would be considered foreign for those who aren't.

The move is considerably bold and it would be seen as part of Google expanding their reach across every possible consumer they can get their hands on. But this isn't the first time Google did it so it isn't quite surprising. If one could recall, the tech company has expanded earlier by signing a deal to be supported on Apple's iPhones and iPads.

On the other hand, by partnering with Google and having their content made available for certain devices, LG has ensured that their consumers gain a lot. By making the company's Play Movies & TV service available, they have expanded their consumers' options as they are now not just limited to what LG provides.

The consumers don't have to rent movies or buy one that is locked to their TVs anymore. Plus the new service from Google enables users to pause their TV if there are untimely interruptions while watching. For example, an uninvited guests drops by or the phone rings and they have to answer it, they won't be irritated and worried that their movies or shows will end while they finish these things.

This feature is part of the resume function of the service. Another advantage of the Play Movies and TV service on LG is that it allows the consumer to play and stream through their TVs previously bought contents from Google Play Movies store or any free content that they offer.

Consumers' ability to buy and watch movies through Google Play Movies store will start rolling out for about 104 countries and has already started this month. Meanwhile the TV service is expected to first start rolling out to consumers in the US, Canada, UK, and Australia.
