Skype Adds Translator Feature To Its Windows Beta Version
Skype is moving on to a higher ground. It was revealed during the Re/code's Code Conference that Microsoft is upgrading its voice call service. The new Skype voice and video call service has now added a translation service under its belt. The pre-beta version of this latest feature was demoed under the name "Skype Translator," which could be said to be the final name of this feature as of now.
The latest feature of the call service promises to allow users to communicate with each other via Skype in their own language without worrying whether the other person they are communicating to is able to understand and communicate back. With the service, they can be at ease with their own language as the new feature allows the communication to be translated into a language that the other person can understand.
In the demo that took place during the conference, Microsoft demoed its latest Skype feature. The company's Vice President, Gurdeep Singh Pall, spoke English while conversing using the new voice and video call service with one of their employees, Diana Heinrichs, who in turn spoke German.
The latest feature shows that it waits until the user who is currently speaking finishes saying a phrase and then translates that phrase into the other user's language. The Skype Translator works this way so that the speakers will be able to hear each other before the phrase is translated into their language. This might even help the other user to understand the foreign language through listening to the sounds.
So far, Skype Translator is nearly accurate with just a tiny bit of mistakes here and there, but that is about expected as this is a beta version, and so far this is the first version of the feature to come out. Besides, Microsoft said there are more plans in the future to explore and improve the Skype Translator feature.
Future plans of the multibillionaire company includes using the "real language that users speak" in order to make a far better translator and far more accurate translation. With a better or more accurate translation means that Skype will be able to provide a better service to its consumers and in the end provide customer satisfaction, which almost every company is striving to achieve each year.
Microsoft said that Skype Translator will be first available only on Skype for Windows. The company has plans to add support to many devices like smartphones and tablets as well in the future but will settle for Windows for now. The feature will also support only a limited number of languages currently but will have additional languages added in the future.
