Tesla Boss On Apple Secret Plans, Electric Cars And The Future

Jan 13, 2016 06:29 AM EST

Speculations have been flying around about Apple building its own electric cars. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said these rumours are true. Apple is indeed en route to entering the automobile industry. Musk has said that the speculations about Apple's plan on designing an electric car is obvious and says that things like that is pretty hard to hide, especially if you hire over a thousand engineers for workforce.

Apple so far has not officially announced or confirmed about its plans to build such automobile. But the reports have been building up for quite some time, and these have started since last February. It has been said that the Cupertino company's "Project Titan" has been involved in hiring a number of talented automobile makers, including Tesla.

Although the tech company has since refused to make a comment regarding these reports, it was later revealed that the Cupertino company has three car-related Internet domain names registered under the company. The three domains said to be included in the registered names are Apple.car, Apple.cars and Apple.auto.

Another proof that Apple is indeed venturing into the car industry is the news last September about the California Department of Motor Vehicles' confirmation of having met with the Cupertino company. The meeting was revealed to be about a review on autonomous vehicle regulations.

During the interview with Musk when asked if they feel threatened, he instead laughed and welcomed Apple to the car manufacturer's field. According to Musk, Apple's foray into the car-making business will expand the said industry. The Tesla boss said that he can envision a future where all cars are electric and autonomous.

Of course, Tesla will still strive to make the most compelling luxury electric cars and still will have that as their goal. But that fact doesn't stop them from helping other companies make electric cars as well. Meanwhile as usual, Apple did not give any comments regarding the issue and remained quiet.
