Red Dead Redemption 2 Release Date: What We Know So Far

May 23, 2016 08:10 AM EDT

With E3 just around the corner, the rumor mill is abuzz with speculations about Rockstar Games' action-adventure game Red Dead Redemption.

The rumors have started when Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two Interactive announced that the game company will be revealing 'some exciting future projects soon'.

Chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive Strauss Zelnick said in the company's earnings report that Rockstar Games is hard at work on a few projects. Zelnick went on about the future of Take-Two, citing a few of its main titles like NBA2k16 and XCOM 2. ItechPost reported that Zelnick has not mentioned Red Dead Redemption nor a new Grand Theft Auto on its list of future releases, which leads to speculation that Red Dead Redemption 2 would not even be available until 2017.

The CEO also said that Take-Two will be present on this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3. "We will be there in a big way," Zelnick said.

No other details were given out beyond this. However, Take-Two Interactive's president, Karl Slatoff, said that Rockstar is working on new IP's to diversify its portfolio of franchises. Again, no exact details were given, but speculations about Red Dead Redemption are still going strong.

The rumor is fuelled further by news of a map leak, as reported by TechRadar last month. The map was posted on gaming forums Neogaf and was taken down shortly, but not before other people were able to get a copy of the image. Some people, however, were not fully convinced, and said that the map might either be fan-made, or for a completely different game. Hi-res version can be viewed here.

Ecumenical News has added that the name of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 might be subtitled "Legends of the West".

Whether there's a new Red Dead Redemption in the works, fans are hoping that this will all be revealed soon as E3 looms near.
