Dec 10, 2016 05:49 AM EST

While players from all over the world are now eagerly completing the main story mode of "Final Fantasy XV," some gamers, especially those who have waited patiently when the title was first announced in 2006, are looking forward to future updates for the latest role-playing game (RPG) from Square Enix.

Initially announced as a PlayStation 3-exclusive game called "Final Fantasy Versus XII", the 15th entry into the "Final Fantasy" RPG franchise was then renamed "Final Fantasy XV." The title has since been released for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

On Dec. 7, 2016, game director Hajime Tabata wrote a blog post detailing Square Enix's plans for "Final Fantasy's" upcoming downloadable content (DLC). Tabata's blog post detailed the company's short-term and long-term goals for DLCs.

The director shared that in the hopes of meeting fan expectation and generating new content that will allow gamers to enjoy "Final Fantasy XV" long after they have finished the title's story mode, the development team has paid attention to some requests and suggestions from fans of the franchise. Tabata assured fans that "Final Fantasy XV" will be receiving numerous free updates in the coming year.

Short-term DLC plans for the game include enhancements to existing aspects of "Final Fantasy XV" such as additions to Chapter 13 and buffer ring magic. More details will be released in 2017.

Mid-term plans include an expansion that will help players understand Ravus' motivations. However, Tabata shared that the DLC for this story element will take time since "they'll need to be localized and voiced in other languages."

Long-term plans for "Final Fantasy XV" DLC includes new playable characters. Tabata also said that they are also thinking of developing personalized avatars for the game.

Hardcore players will be pleased to know that something akin to a New Game Plus feature will also be included in the planned DLC. One such feature can allow gamers to "carry over stats from a previous playthrough."

Tabata concluded his post by sharing that the team is currently working on the contents of the "Final Fantasy XV" Season Pass, which includes the following:

FFXV Holiday Pack (tentative name)

FFXV Booster Pack (tentative name)

FFXV Episode Gladiolus (tentative name)

FFXV Episode Ignis (tentative name)

FFXV Episode Prompto (tentative name)

FFXV Expansion Pack: Comrades (tentative name)
