Hawkeye & Black Widow Movie Unlikely; Jeremy Renner Reportedly Wants Film to Happen

Jan 05, 2017 09:50 PM EST

Hawkeye, portrayed by actor Jeremy Renner, is one character that adds to the foundation of "The Avengers." However, the spotlight seems to stray away from the possibility of the accurate archer and even his skilled partner Black Widow from getting their own standalone film version.

After the success of two films under "The Avengers" franchise and other Marvel standalone films, Renner sees the potential of his excellent marksman character to get his own movie. He says the same for his co-star Scarlett Johansson, who plays the role of Black Widow.

According to Edmonton Sun, Renner thinks that the "big boys" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be getting a lot of the spotlight, namely Captain America, Iron-Man, Thor and even Hulk -- all of whom have received their solo films. Renner said that being paired with Black Widow will prove useful to his character and would be a good idea in the future.

"I always thought it would make sense early on to do a Hawkeye/Widow movie because they're quite similar - they don't have powers, have high skill sets, and have history together, but I don't think there are any discussions about that happening. I'd love to do it though," Renner explains.

The character of Renner first appeared in a scene in 2011 on  the movie "Thor," where fans seemingly had a hint of who he was. Next was in "The Avengers,"  the follow-up "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" and, finally, "Captain America: Civil War."

Hawkeye, or Clint Barton, is one of the members of the new "Avengers," with a past made of intrigue and drama. Barton was joined by Captain America, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, as well as Black Widow, who was previously working for her country as a villain. Hawkeye plays a rather remarkable and important role to the group, as in he will be responsible for the death of Bruce Banner's Hulk because of a threat on the Avengers.

For now, no news has been issued on where Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow will appear next, except for the anticipated "The Avengers: Infinity War." It will be the third installment of the franchise and one of the most awaited films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
