Android 7.1.1 Nougat Update Bugged Nexus 6 Users With Breaking Speakerphone, Loss Voicemail PIN Recognition And other Problems

Considering the Android 7.0 Nougat brought about battery problems for many Nexus users, the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update as a possible fix-all was highly anticipated. This isn't the case, unfortunately. The latest OS patch seems to have brought about its own entirely new set of issues.

Multiple Nexus 6 phone users who have updated to the recent version have been posting complaints about the Android 7.1.1 "breaking" their speakerphone. Based on at least a dozen similar reports, this doesn't seem to be an isolated issue.

Speakerphone Bug From Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It looks like the latest update contains echo bug, as Daily Sun reports that the AOSP Issue Tracker and Google forums are practically flooded with Nexus 6 users all complaining about the same scenario.

It seem that while on a speakerphone call, the receiver gets some sort of distracting, irritating noise that disrupts the conversation. Some say they hear static, others report squealing, but the majority all agree there's a definite echo to the audio.

More detailed scenarios explain that neither party can hear each other when patched through. The audio cuts out for the owner while the caller on the other line just gets noisy, echo-y feedback.

Other Android 7.1.1 Nougat Problems. Other issues, though not as common, have been reported as well. According to Android Headlines, other users claim that the update has caused issues with their notifications and status bar.

A few cases also mention that their phones no longer recognize their voicemail PIN. XDA Developers seem to be at a loss on how to address this issue.

Smooth Sailing For Some. Despite all this, a lot of users have also reported a successful update on their Nexus 6, and are quite happy with the results. This suggests that the update is, almost literally, a luck of the draw for Nexus 6 users. Until Google releases an official statement-or even a fix-Nexus 6 owners are advised to hold off on updating.
