‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ Gameplay: Protagonist Aloy Could Be Joined By Other Characters In The Future

Feb 22, 2017 06:44 AM EST

"Horizon Zero Dawn's" Aloy is 2017's coolest leading lady, and Sony has already gone on record to proclaim that the team wants her to become a PlayStation icon of the future. However, she may not always be the game's chief protagonist, according to Guerrilla Games.

In a recent interview with Gamereactor, Guerrilla's Senior Producer Angela Gillespie said she thinks Aloy will always be a part of the series, but it doesn't mean she'll remain as the lead character in future installments. "I think Aloy will always be a part of 'Horizon: Zero Dawn,' but as you might have seen, there is a big number of characters and tribes in the game, and we have a rich history," Gillespie said.

"We spent years developing these tribes, so there is a possibility for other characters in the future, but Aloy will always remain in 'Horizon: Zero Dawn,'" the producer added. The review embargo for the game was lifted recently, and so far it has received positive reviews - PlayStation Lifestyle gave it a 10/10.

"Horizon Zero Dawn's" gameplay is surprisingly very compelling. In the game, players take on the role of Aloy, a girl who is born in questionable circumstances to the Nora tribe, forest-dwellers headed by matriarchs. While an elder in the game sees Aloy as a blessing from the God of her people, others regard her an omen, and thus, should be shunned. Aloy has to win a test called The Proving for her to be allowed back into the Nora tribe, if that's something a player wants. Guerrilla Games gave the game the open-world treatment, but for those looking for a more linear experience, you can find it here.

"Horizon Zero Dawn" releases on Feb. 28 in North America and March 1 in Europe for PlayStation 4. It is also available for PS4 Pro, to see the game in 4K HDR.
