HTC Quickest In Getting Android Updates Released

HTC One S users may be getting the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update far later than expected, but they shouldn't complain. According to a recent study by Ars Technica, HTC is the quickest on the draw among Android smartphone makers when it comes to releasing Android updates for smartphone users.

The global variant of HTC One S has started getting the Android 4.1.1 update (you can check for it in the Settings menu) though the U.S. carrier-locked version may have to wait a bit longer because it needs to be carrier-approved first.

Though some HTC One S users may complain that the update has come late (HTC had first promised the update in July, and it was then delayed to October), we think HTC deserves some break. Rather, HTC smartphone users should be happy. An Ars Technica study has found that HTC is the quickest on the draw among Android smartphone makers when it comes to releasing Android updates.

"HTC's time-to-update average is a bit skewed due to the fact it got in on the ground floor of Android when updates came relatively easily, but it is still the most impressive of all the manufacturers, with a 4.7 month update average," the report said.

Samsung comes a close second, averaging 6.9 months lag between an OS version release and the time the update takes to reach the phone. Motorola (averaging 8.4 months) and LG (averaging 11.9 months) grabbed the third and fourth spots respectively.
