Microsoft Windows 8.1 Update 1 leaks with more exciting details (VIDEO)

A few details leaked recently regarding Microsoft's first update to Windows 8.1, and now the new OS version stars in a video.

By all accounts, Microsoft seems to have realized that its whole Windows 8 Modern UI scheme hasn't really caught on, and users are still frustrated and confused. The company is apparently trying to fix things further with the next update.

With Windows 8.1 Update 1, the Start screen and Modern apps will no longer take center stage. The update is expected to become available in March or April and bring a number of much-needed changes.

The previous leak showed that the Update 1 will add an option to skip the Start screen altogether and enable booting to desktop by default. Moreover, Modern apps would be renamed as Store apps, and users will be able to pin them to the Start menu and launch them from there, without having to rely on the Start screen. Another welcome change is the addition of buttons for Power and Search in the top right corner, instead of requiring users to dive into the confusing Charms menu.

A new video has now leaked online confirming the previously-reported features, as well as several other tweaks that reveal Microsoft's attempt to demote the Modern UI to a non-essential experience for laptops and desktops without a touchscreen display.

The video comes from YouTube user Bavo Luysterborg and shows a comprehensive walkthrough of the changes Windows 8.1 Update 1 will bring to the table. As the previous leak also noted, the video confirms that modern apps will now have a title bar that is activated when the mouse cursor nears the top of the screen. From there, users will be able to minimize, close, or dock apps to either side of the screen using the Windows Snap feature.

There are also a number of enhancements to the Start screen itself, including the aforementioned Power and Search buttons. The update also redesigns the All Apps view, as well as the default tile layout. When right-clicking on a tile or option, for instance, users will see a regular context menu instead of the options bar that used to pop up across the top and bottom of the screen. Furthermore, users will also be able to select multiple tiles at once by holding the Ctrl key, which will make it easier to manage things on the go.

The update still shows no trace of the traditional Start menu, so the Start screen will not be entirely replaced, it would just play a less-essential role. Lastly, the video also shows a new build of Internet Explorer 11 ready for the Windows 8.1 Update 1, which will sport a new Enterprise mode.
