Apple releases latest iOS 7.1.1 update - Here’s what it brings
Alexandra BurlacuApple just rolled out its iOS 7.1.1, a minor update aiming to bring some bug fixes and general improvements to the platform.
The new update comes six weeks after Apple released the last major update to its mobile operating system in the form of iOS 7.1. The major update brought along a set of visual tweaks, the new CarPlay functionality, some Siri improvements, as well as with enhancements to Touch ID, the company's fingerprint sensor. The new minor update, meanwhile, comes with bug fixes, security updates, and various other improvements.
Apple says its new iOS 7.1.1 brings "further improvements" to Touch ID, as well as a fix for an issue that reportedly caused problems when using Bluetooth with VoiceOver enabled. The company did not specify what that issue was, but said this update will fix it. Moreover, the new iOS 7.1.1 should also improve keyboard responsiveness, as it fixes a bug that was affecting this functionality.
Lastly, as MacRumors points out, iOS 7.1.1 also brings some changes to the iOS app store. Such improvements include clearer labeling for software that entails in-app purchases, which will not appear in the Top Charts listing beneath icons.
This new labeling aims to make things even clearer, as Apple already started showing similar notifications last month on an app's individual page. The company has faced issues with this matter in the past, with several iOS users complaining that apps with in-app purchases were not properly labeled. With this enhanced notification system, Apple should be able to avoid further reports on this matter and clear the waters with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as well.
Lastly, as expected, the new minor update rolled out on Tuesday, April 22, deals with issues found in the last major update released back in March. That package, iOS 7.1, arrived six months after Apple launched its iOS 7 operating system, marking the greatest changes to the platform since the first iPhone debuted back in 2007.
