MacBook Air lineup updated with more horsepower, longer battery life, $100 lower price
Alexandra BurlacuAs various reports have previously indicated, Apple has officially updated its MacBook Air lineup with more horsepower and lower price tags.
Apple has just launched refreshed MacBook Airs that now boast faster versions of Intel's Haswell processor for extra oomph. Moreover, the company has also slashed $100 off the price tag of each model, which means that the starting price of a MacBook Air is now $899.
The 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air in all standard models now pack a faster dual-core Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 1.4GHz, paired with 4B of RAM for a fast and responsive performance. The entry-level configurations of both the 11- and 13-inch models now cost $899 and $999, respectively, for 128GB of flash storage. The higher-end models, meanwhile, now cost $1099 for the 11-inch model and $1199 for the slightly larger 13-inch version, both with 256GB of flash storage.
Aside from the standard options, Apple is also allowing interested customers to make their own choices with build-to-order options. Such options include a 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor with up to 8GB of RAM for those who need more horsepower. The choice is available for both the 11- and the 13-inch models of the updated MacBook Air.
It's also worth pointing out that Apple has also bumped up both its MacBook Air laptops in the battery department, and both updated models now boast slightly longer battery life during iTunes movie playback times. The 11-inch MacBook Air now offers 9 hours of playback instead of the previous 8, while the 13-inch model now jumps from 10 to 12 hours.
Moreover, recent whispers have also indicated that Apple is working on a 12-inch MacBook with a high-resolution Retina display and a new ultra-slim form factor. This model is expected to make its debut sometime later this year, but nothing is official at this point.
As previously mentioned, Apple is now selling its updated MacBook Air laptops for $100 less despite the upgrades, and the devices are now available for purchase from the company's online store. Apple lists all standard configurations of its MacBook Air models as available and ready to ship within 24 hours.
