Lenovo unveils new Chromebooks, including one with flexible display – Price, specs & availability
Alexandra BurlacuAfter launching education-focused Chromebooks earlier this year, Lenovo is now entering the consumer sector with two new Chrome OS laptops - the N20 and N20p.
The new Chrome OS laptops from Lenovo are still aimed at the education market, which means that they pack good specifications at a decent price point. The N20p model is the higher-end one, borrowing some design cues from the company's popular Yoga line of tablets, including a 10-point flexible touchscreen that allows users to fold the keyboard backwards up to 300 degrees. Once the keyboard goes beyond 180 degrees, the device will automatically disable it for "Stand Mode," so users can watch videos and presentations or handle touch-only apps in a more convenient manner.
In terms of specifications, other than the flexible display on the N20p model, the two new Lenovo Chromebooks are virtually identical. They both sport 11.6-inch displays with 1366 x 768 resolutions, Intel Celeron Haswell processors, up to 16GB of storage, and up to 4GB of RAM.
Other specs include two USB ports, an HDMI port, and an SD card slot, while connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0. The laptops also feature large trackpads and full-sized keyboards. In terms of portability, the N20 weighs just 2.8 lbs, while the N20p is slightly heavier at 3.1 lbs. For laptops in the 11-inch category they are a bit on the heavy side, but their price tags should make up for it quite nicely.
The Lenovo N20 Chromebook will hit commercial availability in July with a $279 price tag, while the touch-enabled, flexible-display N20p model will arrive later in August for a higher price of $329.
"Our first consumer Chromebooks perfectly complement people's changing mobile digital lifestyles," Dilip Bhatia, Lenovo PC Group vice president of worldwide marketing and design, said in the press release, as published by Android Central. "Equipped with thousands of apps, the N20 and N20p Chromebooks are also fast, secure and incredibly simple for anyone to use and manage. With touch and two unique modes on the N20p Chromebook, users are getting a great technology experience at a handsome price."
Both the N20 and the N20p Chromebooks will be available through Lenovo retailers, as well as Lenovo's official website.
