OPPO N1 Mini officially confirmed, set to debut on May 30
Alexandra BurlacuAn OPPO N1 Mini is apparently en route, as the company has just confirmed it by announcing an event on May 30.
The trend of launching a flagship smartphone and release a more compact, Mini version afterwards seems to be growing strong, and OPPO is among the latest smartphone makers to join this party.
Various rumors of an OPPO N1 Mini handset have been making rounds recently, and the company now bolsters such claims by announcing a new press event scheduled for Friday, May 30, to unveil this upcoming device.
OPPO took to popular Chinese social media network Weibo to break the news, confirming that it will unveil the smaller version of its N1 powerhouse later this week. The company didn't offer any additional details regarding the smartphone's hardware specifications, but earlier leaks have tried to paint a picture of what to expect.
Based on rumors and reports so far, the OPPO N1 Mini is expected to sport a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, and come with either a MediaTek MT6592 processor or an Exynos 5422 Octa processor under the hood. The N1 Mini is also expected to come in both LTE and non-LTE versions. The handset is further rumored to feature a 13-megapixel rear camera and run the latest version of the company's Color OS, which is a custom version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
If the press invite seen above is any indication, the OPPO N1 Mini will borrow many design cues from the original N1 smartphone, including the much-touted rotary camera. It remains unclear whether the smartphone will also have a secondary camera, or that's just an LED flash seen next to the rotary shooter.
The OPPO N1 launched last year has received high praise for its top-notch rotary shooter, which allows users to snap high-quality photos even while taking a selfie. If the N1 Mini offers similar functionality at a lower price point, it will likely become quite a popular device.
No additional details are available at this point, but more information should come to light soon enough. With May 30 just around the corner, we'll soon know all the juicy details straight from the source. We'll keep an eye out for OPPO's big announcement on Friday and keep you up to date as soon as we hear more, so stay tuned.
