Sony Xperia Z2 headed to Verizon Wireless in the U.S.
Alexandra BurlacuThe Sony Xperia Z2 flagship smartphone will reportedly land on Verizon's network soon, according to a leaked promotional material with Big Red's branding on it.
Sony unveiled its latest Xperia Z2 a while back, and the handset is packed with impressive specs and features all around. It boasts top-of-the-line specifications and a high IP58 rating, which makes it both dust- and water-resistant for extra durability.
The Xperia Z2, however, has had a pretty rocky launch. It went on pre-order in Europe, then disappeared, then went back on pre-order, faced some supply shortages, and never made it to the U.S. so far. Earlier rumors indicated that Verizon will be offering the smartphone, but subsequent news revealed that the Xperia Z2 would only be available through the Sony online store in the U.S.
The rumor mill nonetheless kept churning regarding the device's launch on Verizon's network, with lots of teasers and leaks claiming that it would hit Big Red's network soon. Fast forward to present date, and the folks over at PhoneArena managed to obtain a leaked employee training manual screenshot. The material in question shows a Verizon-bound Sony Xperia Z2 en route.
More specifically, the document shows that Verizon is training its employees on the Xperia Z2, which means that it shouldn't be long before the smartphone powerhouse joins the carrier's lineup. Sony's flagship smartphones have so far been available on T-Mobile, which offered both the Xperia Z and the Xperia Z2, but it looks like things may change with the Xperia Z2.
As a reminder, the Sony Xperia Z2 sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, a hefty 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage capacity, and microSD card support for additional memory of up to 128GB. Other specs include a high-end 20.7-megapixel rear camera with 4K video recording capabilities, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a 3,200 mAh battery. On the software side, Android 4.4.2 KitKat runs the show.
Verizon has yet to offer any official information regarding plans to launch the Sony Xperia Z2 for now, but if this leak is accurate the carrier should make an announcement soon enough. Be sure to check back for more details as soon as they become available.
