iPhone 6 hype: 4.7-inch model surfaces in first actual photos, not mockups

After seeing various mockups of the purported iPhone 6, some actual photos allegedly showing the final device have surfaced online.

The next-generation iPhone 6 is one of the most leaked devices, with various photos, rumors or reports popping up on a daily basis. Upcoming products, especially highly-anticipated gadgets from bigwig companies, are always surrounded by a lot of hype and anticipation grows with each new tidbit of information.

The first images claimed to be actual photos of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 have now leaked online, as opposed to the previously surfaced images that were just mockups of the device. The folks over at Geeky Gadgets have received these photos from a case maker, who has allegedly obtained the iPhone 6 from a "reliable Apple source."

"When we first saw the photos, we thought they may have been either of a mockup or the cloned iPhone we saw recently, but after comparing these photos to the other ones we have seen, we are pretty sure this is a new device, and is probably the new 4.7 inch iPhone," Geeky Gadgets reports.

The publication further notes that the email seems to have been sent in error, instead of being just an internal email, which means that other sites may have received the same treat as well.

As a reminder, Apple is expected to launch two iPhone 6 models this year, one with a 4.7-inch screen and the other with a 5.5-inch display. These images purportedly show the smaller 4.7-inch model, revealing the previously rumored form factor with rounded corners reminiscent of the iPad Air. This model is rumored to have a resolution of 1704 x 960 pixels, while the larger 5.5-inch variant may boast a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 and launch as the iPhone Air.

The next-generation iPhone is also expected to pack a powerful 64-bit A8 processor, enhanced graphics, and more RAM compared to the current iPhone 5S. Recent whispers have also claimed that the iPhone 6 will sport a 13-megapixel camera with a new Sony Exmor sensor, as well as an updated front shooter.

The general belief is that Apple will take the wraps off its latest smartphone powerhouse in September. More specifically, the company could unveil the new iPhone 6 on Sept. 9, ahead of a Sept. 19 commercial launch. It still remains unclear at this point whether both iPhone 6 models will launch at the same time or the 5.5-inch variant will face delays.

We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available, but make sure to take all leaks, rumors and speculation with a grain of salt in the meantime.
