Sony Xperia Z3 may launch as minor upgrade compared to current flagship
Alexandra BurlacuThe yet-to-be-announced Sony Xperia Z3 has leaked on several occasions so far, and some more information has now surfaced.
Recently leaked images allegedly showing the upcoming Sony Xperia Z3 indicated that the new iteration may not sport many changes in terms of design, and the latest info now claims that it may not sport big changes in the hardware department either.
The purported specs of the Sony Xperia Z3 have already leaked in previous reports, and trusted tipster @evleaks now confirms most of those details. If these rumors turn out to be accurate, the new iteration will not come as a major upgrade, sporting quite similar internals to the current Xperia Z2 flagship. It will, however, have slight improvements in terms of specs.
According to @evleaks, the Sony Xperia Z3 will come with the same 5.2-inch full HD 1080p display and the same quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset as the current flagship. It will reportedly have a higher clock speed of 2.5GHz, but that will likely not amount to any noticeable difference in the overall performance. The new iteration will reportedly have 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage capacity, i.e. the same as the current model. The camera department will also remain unchanged, with a 20.7-megapixel rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front shooter. The Xperia Z3 will reportedly have a slimmer design as the Z2 and run Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box.
Sony may choose to tweak the camera performance with various software enhancements, or improve the battery life of its upcoming flagship, but it's all in the rumor state at this point.
The Sony Xperia Z3 was expected to come as a real powerhouse and challenge the LG G3 and other flagships, but the latest rumors indicate otherwise. With the Xperia Z2 launching so late in the U.S. and the Xperia Z3 allegedly bringing only minor improvements, it remains to be seen whether Sony fans will stick around of switch to competing devices.
Either way, it's too early to tell and nothing is officially confirmed at this point, which means that it all remains in the rumor state for now. As always in such cases, treat all leaks, rumors and reports accordingly.
