Android 4.4.4 KitKat roadmap for 13 Samsung Galaxy smartphones leaks online
Alexandra BurlacuSamsung has a slew of smartphones that are yet to get the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but 13 handsets are reportedly in for a software treat.
Google is already gearing up to release its new Android L software, which will hit Nexus devices first. At the same time, most smartphone makers are still working on pushing Android 4.4.4 KitKat to more handsets. Samsung, for instance, has quite an extensive family of Galaxy devices, most of which continue to run older versions such as Android - 4.4.2 or lower.
While Samsung has yet to offer official details regarding the rollout of Android 4.4.4 KitKat to its devices, a newly-leaked document suggests that 13 Galaxy handsets are set to get the upgrade soon.
The folks over at justaboutphones have come up with a list of Galaxy devices and their purported update status to Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The list is dated Oct. 5, but it has just made its way to XDA Developers, as spotted by GforGames. If this schedule turns out to be accurate, at least two high-end Samsung devices could get the latest version of Android by the end of this month.
This would mean that Samsung has already finished preparing Android 4.4.4 for the Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900I and SM-G900F), the Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) and the Galaxy Note 3 LTE (SM-N9005), as their status is listed as "Completed." The document reveals no exact rollout date, but claims these devices should get the update in October.
The Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 LTE, and Galaxy Note 3 Neo seem to be next in line to get the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, as these three handsets are apparently in the final testing stages. According to this list, the three handsets should receive the update sometime next month.
The list further notes that the Android 4.4.4 update for the Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S4 Mini Duos, Galaxy Grand 2, and Galaxy Grand 2 Duos is "pending," which suggests that development is in the early stages for now. At the same time, the update rollout for these handsets is pegged for November as well.
While this may be exciting news for owners of these Galaxy smartphones, keep in mind that this is a leak and it may not be accurate. Samsung has offered no official details regarding its plans for an Android 4.4.4 rollout, so it is highly recommended to take this leak with a hefty grain of salt.
