LG G Pro line to get the boot next year – No G Pro 3?
Alexandra BurlacuLG will reportedly ditch its G Pro lineup next year and focus its efforts on the LG G family instead, according to a new report.
While rival Samsung took quite a big hit in terms of performance recently, LG's earnings and sales seem mainly unaffected by comparison. Nevertheless, the company is apparently looking to focus more on its main lineup, i.e. the LG G family, and let go of other series such as the G Pro.
According to a new report, LG is no longer interested in launching a new LG G Pro iteration next year, as its two main lineups are not that different anymore. So far, the main distinction between the G and G Pro lines consisted in size, as G Pro devices were larger while retaining similar high-end specifications.
With smartphones in general growing increasingly larger, however, the line between the LG G and G Pro series is starting to blur. The current LG G3, for instance, sports quite a large 5.5-inch display, while the LG G Pro 2 comes with a larger 5.9-inch panel. In other words, there's not such a big difference in size anymore, at least not big enough to commend an entirely different lineup.
In such a context, it would make sense for LG to discontinue its G Pro lineup come 2015, and focus on the flagship LG G lineup instead.
So far, the company typically unveiled new G Pro devices early in the year, and a new LG G Pro 2 was expected to make an official debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in February. By the looks of things, LG might instead choose to skip the G Pro 2 launch and focus on releasing the LG G4 by mid-2015, which would be earlier than the usual launch schedule for new LG G iterations.
At the same time, LG is not expected to make any other big changes when it comes to its series of devices. The low-end L series, for instance, should continue down the same path, offering affordable devices with decent specifications, while the F series should continue to cater to the mid-tier segment of the smartphone market.
On the other hand, keep in mind that this news is not official, and it is advisable to take this report with a grain of salt.
