Android Lollipop update to hit Samsung devices in January, leaked company email reveals

Samsung devices will start receiving updates to Android Lollipop in January 2015, reveals an informative email leaked from within the company.

We already knew that Samsung was planning on updating several devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and now more information is available in this regards. An unnamed Samsung employee revealed that the company recently sent out an informative email, offering instructions on how to prepare devices for the upcoming update.

"Hi everyone, today I bring (not exactly unexpected) news I'm sure some of us are very excited for," the tipster wrote on Reddit. "I am employed by Samsung, and today they send out an email to all stores in preparation for the new quarter of the new year. In that email, they said that we needed to start preparing our devices for the Lollipop update, and gave instructions on how to prepare."

Moreover, the source even took a screenshot of the purported email and posted it online for everyone to see.

The tipster further mentions that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be the first one to receive the new Lollipop treat and will get the most attention for the update. Next in line are the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge, followed by the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4, after which Samsung will turn its attention to tablets.

No information is currently available regarding carrier specific updates for Samsung devices, but the tipster points out that Samsung is keen on releasing OS updates faster.

At the same time, the unnamed Samsung employee also highlights that this is not 100 percent certain and should be treated accordingly.

"Yes, this is not 100% confirmed FROM Samsung and should not be taken as an official statement from them in the slightest. I posted this as I know myself among many others are extremely excited about when this update will hit their devices, not to act as though I know something special. There were quite a few people that got this email, not just me, and as a commenter said below, it was of a higher-ups own accord to send us this."

"Please do not take my words for fact, as this is tech as well as retail, and both are subject to change. Milestones get missed, variables can go far left. However, my logic behind this is that if they felt confident enough to tell us to prepare for retail mode installation, it means that they're confident it will be soon."

Lastly, it's worth pointing out that international versions of devices are typically the first ones to receive new updates, and the Lollipop rollout for eligible Samsung devices should make no exception.
