Xiaomi Redmi 2 budget 4G smartphone now available internationally at $155 plus tax
Alexandra BurlacuThe budget-friendly Xiaomi Redmi 2 4G LTE smartphone unveiled at CES 2015 is now ready to ship internationally, available at a $155 price point.
Dubbed the "Apple of China," Xiaomi has become quite popular in the mobile space in recent years. The company has launched a number of smartphones and tablets with good specifications and attractive designs, selling them at budget-friendly price points.
Xiaomi has broken new sales records with each new device, as the company's products are typically in high demand and sell out in no time. The latest smartphone from the company is the Xiaomi Redmi 2, which comes as the successor to the popular Redmi 1S budget handset.
While Xiaomi devices have so far been available only in a few markets, the recently-unveiled Redmi 2 smartphone is now ready to ship internationally thanks to a Chinese retailer. On the other hand, the retailer is asking more for the handset than Xiaomi originally announced.
More specifically, upon unveiling the Redmi 2, Xiaomi said it would come at a price point of roughly $112. Chinese retailer SPEMall is now ready to ship the smartphone internationally, but is selling the device at a higher $155 price point, and that's excluding taxes.
Nevertheless, many customers worldwide may still find this price tag attractive, especially considering the specifications of the 4G LTE-enabled Xiaomi Redmi 2.
As a reminder, the smartphone features a 4.7-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and packs a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood. Other specs include 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD support for additional memory, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front shooter capable of capturing 720p video. In terms of connectivity, the Xiaomi Redmi 2S supports Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE, and A-GPS/ GLONASS. The handset further packs a 2,200 mAh battery, and runs Xiaomi's MIUI 6 based on Android 4.4 KitKat.
In other words, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 doesn't come with high-end specs and features, but it does pack a punch for a budget handset.
SPEMall is now shipping the Xiaomi Redmi 2 internationally for $154.99 plus tax, and interested customers can place an order on the retailer's product page here.
