Android 5.0 Lollipop rolling out to Sprint Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M7
Alexandra BurlacuThe highly-anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop update is now rolling out to two smartphones on Sprint: the HTC One M7 and the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Google unveiled its much-touted Lollipop update back in October, and the new Android version has been gradually making its way to devices ever since. As always, Nexus and GPE devices were the first in line for the update, and Motorola was also very prompt in delivering Lollipop to its devices.
Other OEMs, meanwhile, promised to update their devices as soon as possible. HTC, for its part, initially pledged to deliver the Lollipop update within 90 days of the source code availability, but has recently acknowledged that it was missing that deadline. The company already updated the GPE and unlocked versions of its One M8, as well as carrier versions of the smartphone in Europe and Canada, but the update has yet to reach the carrier versions in the U.S.
The older HTC One M7 is also supposed to get a taste of Lollipop soon in the U.S., and the rollout has already started for the Sprint version of the smartphone. The carrier confirmed that Android 5.0.1 Lollipop is all set to start rolling out to the handset on Thursday, Feb. 5.
"Sprint HTC One (M7) Owners! We've received TA on L OS (5.0.1) and will start OTA tomorrow! Others coming soon," HTC's Mo Versi touted in a Twitter post late on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
When it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S5, meanwhile, Verizon was the first U.S. carrier to start rolling out the Lollipop update and Sprint has now followed suit. The Sprint Galaxy S5 support page on Samsung's website lists the smartphone with Android 5.0 Lollipop on board as of Thursday, Feb. 5. The page also mentions that the update will bring enhanced VoWiFi UI and remove the Lumen tool bar.
Keep in mind, however, that Android 5.0 Lollipop is rolling out over the air (OTA), which means that the process is gradual and will take a while to reach all devices. That said, make sure to tell us how your Sprint HTC One M7 or Samsung Galaxy S5 fares with Lollipop on board when you receive the update.
