Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge 24k Gold, Rose Gold, Platinum models announced
Alexandra BurlacuThe new Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones are in for a luxury treatment, as Gold Genie will launch 24-karat gold versions of the handsets.
A number of smartphones so far have launched in luxury editions that wrapped them in gold, and Samsung's latest flagship smartphones will now get the special treatment as well.
Unveiled back at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge already sport a notable design change compared to the previous Galaxy S5. And if the Galaxy S5 received the gold treatment despite its plastic body, why wouldn't the new smartphones with a metal edge and a glass back get it too?
Gold Genie has officially announced 24-karat gold versions of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The luxury variants will be available in three options - gold, rose gold, and platinum (see image above).
"Samsung will be releasing their latest Galaxy S6 and S6 [Edge] models in a few weeks on April 10th and we're anticipating high demand for our luxury customised versions in 24l Gold, Rose Gold and Platinum," Gold Genie announced. "Therefore we are offering Android fans a pre-ordering service from Friday 20th March to ensure that they are one of the first to receive the new innovative S6 in their favourite finish."
Other than the luxurious gold touch, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will remain unchanged in terms of hardware specifications and software features. This means the same 5.1-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixels), Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB of internal storage capacity, 16-megapixel rear cameras, and 5-megapixel front shooters.
Luxury doesn't come cheap, however, and prices for the 24k gold and platinum versions of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will start at a steep ₤1,664 (roughly $2,440).
As Gold Genie itself mentioned, interested customers will be able to pre-order one of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 luxury models starting on Friday, March 20. For now, a registration option is available so users can receive more information as soon as it becomes available.
