ASUS ZenFone 2 available in the U.S. from Amazon for $219
Alexandra BurlacuAmazon now has the much-touted ASUS ZenFone 2 in stock and ready to ship, selling the smartphone for $219.00.
It's worth pointing out, however, that the model on sale now at Amazon is the version with a 5-inch HD 720p resolution and 2GB of RAM. ASUS unveiled its ZenFone 2 back at CES 2015 earlier this year, announcing different models ranging from 720p with 2GB of RAM to full HD 1080p with a whopping 4GB of RAM.
Interested customers who haven't got their heart set on the higher-end variant can already purchase the 720p model with 2GB of RAM in the U.S. from Amazon. As the retailer notes, however, only the "international version" is available at this point, which means that the smartphone does not come with a U.S. warranty.
As a reminder, the ASUS ZenFone 2 selling now sports a 5-inch HD display (1280 x 720 pixels), a dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor clocked at 1.6GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional memory of up to 64GB, and an 8-megapixel rear camera, among the highlights.
ASUS CEO Jerry Shen recently told the Chinese media that the company could launch a ZenFone 2 refresh sometime in the second half of this year, and include a fingerprint scanner with the new version. Nothing is for certain at this point, however, as the company may not be able to achieve this in due time. If not, the ZenFone 3 that will arrive next year will surely pack a fingerprint reader.
For the time being, Amazon is selling the lower-end ZenFone 2 model (ZE500CL), offering the device for $219.00, available in black or white color options. It remains unclear at this point just when the higher-end model with a 5.5-inch full HD display and 4GB of RAM will be readily available in the U.S., but it shouldn't be too long now.
We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available, so stay tuned. In the meantime, you can find the Osmium Black version of the ZenFone 2 here and the Ceramic White model at this link. Both the black and white color optons of this model cost $219, but the full HD 4GB RAM model will surely be more expensive when it launches.
