Opera, one of the web browsers competing with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari to name a few, is not just a browser anymore. That's right you read that correctly. Opera is now expanding into what has been their biggest yet and is branching out into data management.
Opera has just signed partnership deals with 14 smartphone brands including leading or known brands Samsung and Xiaomi to embed their latest data management "Max" app. And with these deals in place, the Max app will now be shipped along with 100 million Android smartphones by 2017.
The data saving "Max app" was first launched in August by Opera. The app is said to reduce mobile data consumption when the user is streaming music and watching videos. It also blocks apps that can consume data in the background. Opera Max is observed to be less popular than its sibling, the established and known Opera Mini browser which happens to also offer a data saving feature.
With less than five million installs from Google Play, Opera has been promoting the Max app within their Mini browser's dashboard; promising its users that it will help save data that are used by other apps like Chrome and Vine instead of just having it for content viewing through the mini browser.
Opera promotes Max as the app that reduces data consumption from most Android apps by about 50 percent and 60 percent for heavy users of apps like Instagram, Netflix, and YouTube. Opera further states that they have observed that users are usually wary of using their mobile data for fear of incurring too much or exceeding their data plans. With these in mind, the Max app has been made to answer that problem.
The Opera Max, for now, is only available as a distinct app but it can also appear through Android smartphones by supporting the built-in data saving features that already exists in the phones. Whether this deal can help Opera Max to gain renown and increase their following will have to depend on how the consumers react to it and its features.
Additionally, the other well-known and regional companies/brands that also signed the deal with Opera to integrate Opera Max are Acer, Hisense, Oppo, Cherry Mobile, Evercross, Fly, Micromax, Mobiistar, Prestigio, Symphony, Tecno, and TWZ.
