In their quest to be on top and not be left behind, Samsung has just officially unveiled their Exynos 8 Octa 8890 processor chipset. The latest chipset, according to reports, is the second premium application processor that is built on a 14 nm FinFET process technology. Samsung's latest chipset also integrates an advanced LTE Rel.12 Cat. 12/13 modem that gives it more features.
The advanced LTE Rel.Cat. 12/13 enables a maximum speed of up to 600Mbps and an upload speed of up to 150Mbps. The chip is also capable of 30% better performance and is 10% more power efficient than its predecessor, the Exynos 7 Octa. Samsung's latest chipset supports heterogenous multi-processing which will enable a more efficient usage of its eight cores. It has four custom cores and four ARM Cortex-A53 for a higher performance and power efficiency.
Samsung Electronics' Vice President of System LSI Marketing Dr. Kyushik Hong said that the new Exynos 8 Octa is the leading-edge application processor for the next generation of mobile devices that incorporates the company's mobile technology leadership in CPU, ISP and modem as well as in the process technology. And according to him, the latest chipset will allow next level experience for mobile devices.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the Exynos 8890 is planned to be available for mass production by the late 2015. There are also reports that the new chipset is incorporated in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 that is slated to be released early next year.
The new flagship smartphone of Samsung, aside from having the Exyno 8890, is rumoured to also come with high specs and features. Some of the features it is equipped with are the fingerprint sensor incorporating home button and an iris scanner tip that will enable users to unlock their device by simply looking at it.
With the release of Samsung's Exynos 8 Octa 8890 chipset it can be said that the standards has once again been set higher. It can draw and attract more users simply because of it efficiency and might also provoke their competitors to make a new chipsets that will be better than theirs. Either way, the ones who will truly benefit from this latest improvements and upgrades will always be the consumers.
