United Airlines To Use iPhone 6+ To Help Customers

In a bid to help resolve issues that their travellers have, United Airlines will make use of Apple's iPhone 6 Plus. The airline has announced this Wednesday, December 2, that they will hand out about 6,000 or more iPhone 6 Plus smartphones to their customer service representatives. With this move Apple is also sure to advance in terms of getting their smartphone adopted as a tool for more businesses.

This move by the airlines, which is set to commence next year, will assist representatives in helping their consumers with their travel related issues at any of the United Airlines' hubs in the US. As of now, the date of the start of this plan is not yet decided. The addition of the smartphones will alleviate the traveller's stress when checking in at the airport or making changes to their flights at the last minute.

The airlines' reps will be equipped with an iPhone 6 Plus that will be able to help the said travellers with certain pre-flight tasks like printing boarding passes and baggage tags. They will also be able to assist consumers with their flight options and other usual problems on the spot. In the future, United reps will also be able to help consumers check in at airport lobbies and also offer other options which are only available at traditional kiosks.

According to United Airlines Senior VP of Airport Operations Jon Roitman, their employees have told them that they need better tools to serve their consumers better, especially during busier and severe weather times. They have seen the great success of the custom made tools on iPhone 6+ and believe that expanding the use of smartphones with other applications is a great investment on their employees.

Last year in December, the airlines have announced giving out 23,000 iPhone 6+ to their flight attendants and since June, these handsets have been used for on-board purchases. It was also used to access the attendant's work email and flight policies plus manuals. The said manuals have been exchanged from printed to electronic versions stored on Apple's iPad since August 2011.

United Airlines is not the first to adapt to relying smartphones though, it could be recalled that two years ago in August, Delta Airlines began using the Lumia 820 Windows phone to help their consumers make on board purchases via a credit card.
