Uber Joins Facebook To Provide Better User Experience

Mary Cris Balancio

Facebook had just announced this Wednesday, Dec. 16 that their users will now be able to request an Uber ride directly via the Facebook messenger. The social network wants to make it easier for their consumers to plan get-togethers with their acquaintances and/or friends without making them leave their chat conversations with each other.

So how does one access Uber while having a conversation in Messenger? There are actually two ways on how the user can do so. One is if the destination's address is mentioned within the conversation, the user can just tap it to order a car. The second option is by going to the "More" option of Facebook Messenger that looks like three dots in the toolbar.

If the user utilizes the Uber option often through the messenger, a car icon will appear automatically in their toolbar with buttons for changing the font and other shortcuts. Users will also not have to worry or be bothered to install an Uber app on their phones to be able to use it on their messengers. They could just link their existing accounts to messenger or create a new account within the social media's chat app.

Once an Uber service is ordered, it will appear in the conversation thread that the user is currently in. Additionally, other features found in the car services' main app like surge pricing notifications and the ride's ETA can be found in Messenger. Facebook is currently offering a deal for a limited time where users get a free $20 USD Uber ride for the first time they order through Messenger.

Uber is the social media's first transportation partner, but Facebook said that there are still far more announcements and plans in the future. It was also previously reported that Facebook has been conducting tests with possible partners for adding or improving their services. With these improvements, Facebook may build a more solid fan base, which is what the epitome of what success is all about.
