Polaroid Unveils “Power” and “Snap” Smartphone Units
Mary Cris BalancioThe American company popular for its Polaroid instant films and cameras has just announced at CES 2016 that it is launching two new Android smartphone devices, which are to be called "Power" and "Snap." The "Polaroid Power" unlocked units will be made available by 2016's spring season and is expected to sell at $249.99 USD or about ₹16,750 INR.
The "Polaroid Snap" unlocked devices, on the other hand, will be made available by next month and will come at a manufacturer's suggested retail price range of $129.99-$179.99 USD or ₹8,700-₹12,000 INR. The Polaroid Snap smartphones will come in three different models, which will have three different display sizes: 5 inches, 5.5 inches and 6 inches.
Both the Snap and the Power smartphones have been manufactured and designed by a company called Southern Telecom, which is one of the few authorised Polaroid licensees. Both the handheld devices are going to run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box but will be upgradeable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. However, the upgrade dates are still not confirmed as Polaroid has not given any indication or any time frame as to when that will be.
The Polaroid Power device features a 6-inch full HD display that has a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It runs on an octa-core processor. It has an internal storage of 32GB and a 3GB RAM. It sports a 13-megapixel rear shooter with LED flash and an 8-megapixel front shooter. It supports 4G LTE in terms of connectivity and is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.
Polaroid has also listed that the Polaroid Power phone will be coming with an additional 8,000mAh external power bank. However, it is not confirmed whether it will come bundled up with the mobile phone or if the customer has to pay an additional price for it.
As mentioned, Polaroid Snap will be coming in three different display sizes. But aside from the difference in the display size, all the models have the same specs and/or features. Polaroid Snap will have a full HD display with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and will run on a quad-core processor. It has an internal storage of 16GB, which is expandable via a microSD card and has a RAM of 2GB.
Polaroid said that another variation of the Polaroid Snap will be made available, and it will have an internal storage of 8GB and a 1GB RAM. It is not clear though which among the different screen sizes it will be made available. Other details are said to be announced soon.
In terms of camera, Polaroid Snap sports a 13-megapixel rear shooter and a 5-megapixel front shooter. Both cameras will be coming with an LED flash. Regarding the battery, there are no details about it yet, so it might be that the company is still polishing some of its phone's details. But this will be announced during launching.
