This might both be sad and surprising news for Windows users as Microsoft allegedly announces that consumers have to pay from $119 up to $199 for upgrading into Windows 10 and Windows 10 Pro, respectively.
Corporate VP for Windows and Devices Group Yusuf Mehdi announced the news, reports Express UK. "Time is running out," the VP said. "The free upgrade offer will end on July 29th and we want to make sure you don't miss out."
So far, over 300 million active devices are running the latest OS, the Redmond firm confirmed. With only two months, they are expecting that the numbers of people who will upgrade will skyrocket.
For complete information, kindly visit the official Windows blog.
However, the con of this announcement includes not possibly reaching the one billion devices target in a decade, given that the prices for upgrade are quite high. Worse, Microsoft author and tech expert Paul Thurrot analyzes that these circumstance could shut the company from the tech world.
"What both Google and Apple have, however, are secret weapons that Microsoft lacks: Incredibly popular mobile platforms," Thurrott posted on his widely-known online journal. "And as these platforms mature, they are becoming increasingly viable PC replacements. And it won't take much to put them over the top."
"Microsoft, of course, has tried, but failed, to match the mobile efforts of its competitors, but with Windows RT and Windows phone utterly failing in their respective markets, Microsoft has an exposed flank."
Meanwhile, those who already have Windows 10 in their devices but still experiencing some difficulty getting used to the interface, ZDNet listed down some of the loopholes that can be fixed for good.
For example, users who are annoyed or forced to make or sign in using a Microsoft account may be annoyed no more. The instructions are thoroughly listed on the website.
