With the rollout in new technologies this year, rollable screen for Android is no more a dream. In the Display Week 2016, Samsung has rolled out demos for the rollable screen, which was supposed to be in the works.
Notably, Samsung Display has been working with flexible screen technology for several years, and some of the efforts of the company have become visible in different endeavors the company has undertaken. However, with the latest invention of rollable screens, Samsung has pushed over the limit of display technology.
Although the rollable display panels are not available commercially, Samsung has taken every opportunity to highlight the latest advancements in the area, according to reports from Android Headlines.
The newest rollable screen consists of a 5.7 inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and a pixel density of 386 pixels per inches. The panel also consists of 10R rolling radius that allows the screen to be rotated in a tube of 10 mm diameter. The weight of the screen is 5 grams and the profile is 0.3 mm in measurements.
During the demo, the panel was tried in an enclosed environment and powered by an external battery. It is still unclear as to how many times the panel can be rolled before the screen is damaged, and the tech company has declined to reveal any specific details regarding the matter.
Aside from the much - awaited rollable screen, Samsung has also showcased a 5.7 inch flexible screen with 2560 x 1440 resolution and a density of 551 pixels per inches, which is capable of generating 420 nits of brightness. This might be available on a commercial basis shortly, along with the future Samsung smartphones.
Meanwhile, it is rumored that Samsung will continue to work on foldable Smartphone technology, which was previously referred to as "Project Valley". Thus, as far as the rollable screen technology for consumer products, it seems that Samsung will have to work a bit harder for this.
