Square Enix's Playstation 2 masterpiece "Final Fantasy XII" will finally be released in a new-gen console.

According to Kotaku, the high-definition remaster is titled "Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age" and will be based to the Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System. The game will feature overhauled character models and improved cutscenes, as well as an auto save feature, shorter loading times and an improved "speed mode".

"We're thrilled to give players a chance to return to Ivalice in Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age," Square Enix producer Hiroaki Kato confirmed on the Playstation Blog. "So we've updated the visuals to full HD resolution, including the environments, characters, and movie scenes to make sure they look their best on PlayStation 4."

Kotaku also reports that the game score has been re-recorded for the Final Fantasy XII HD remaster, but players will have the option to switch between the new and the original score.

Playstation Lifestyle reported other features of the game, including Trial Mode, Playstation 4 trophy support and share function and True 7.1 surround sound.

"Final Fantasy XII" was first released in 2006, and has sold more than 1.7 million copies in its first week in Japan. Square Enix has shipped approximately 1.5 million copies to North America on its launch week, and has eventually become the fourth best-selling Playstation 2 game of 2006 worldwide, according to IGN.

The game has also received critical acclaim from various gaming publications. Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu gave the game a perfect score, making it the first Final Fantasy and the first Playstation 2 title to do so.

Square Enix producer Hiroaki Kato confirmed that the game will be released in North America for the Playstation 4 in 2017, along with all the features and updates included in the International Version of the game. Playstation Vita owners are in for some bad news, however, as a Vita port is highly unlikely, Destructoid reported.
