'Watch Dogs 2' To Fill The Gap That 'Assassin's Creed' Left This Year

Ubisoft launched the World Premiere for what looks like of its biggest games this year, "Watch Dogs 2." With the absence of a mainline "Assassin's Creed" title, the new "Watch Dogs" might just fill the spot that the game has vacated this year.

The announcement video for "Watch Dogs 2" was posted on the Ubisoft US official Youtube page. The footage has shown a lot of new features which will be brought to the game, including an all-new location and a new hacker hero.

The story is set after the events of the first "Watch Dogs" game. After hacker vigilante Aiden Pearce shut down Chicago's ctOS security system, Blume Corporation has stepped up its game and made an upgraded version called ctOS 2.0, and has now implemented it across San Francisco.

Now Blume has more control over the populace, now with other big corporations also taking advantage of ctOS 2.0 to track, trade, sell and steal the citizens' profiles without their knowledge.

Enter our new protagonist Marcus Holloway, a promising hacker who was a victim of the new ctOS system, having profiled him for a crime he did not commit. With the help of hacktivist group DedSec, Marcus fights Blume to shut down the corrupt system for good.

Ubisoft has announced in February that no mainline "Assassin's Creed" will be released this year. "We're taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we're delivering on the promise of Assassin's Creed," Ubisoft wrote on the Ubisoft blog.

With no "Assassin's Creed" title anytime this year, it is time for "Watch Dogs 2" to fill in the gap that the open-world game has left.

The "Assassin's Creed" franchise has garnered critical acclaim over the years. However, some fans have commented that the games are getting worse. When "Assassin's Creed Unity" was launched in 2014, Forbes reported that "Assassin's Creed" would need to "slow down and refocus, or risk total derailment".

Now fans are hoping that "Watch Dogs 2" don't follow the same path, and with what the trailer has shown so far, it looks like the franchise will be off to a better start this time around.

With that said, maybe fans can get "Assassin's Creed" easter eggs in "Watch Dogs 2", just like this one:

Ubisoft will be announcing more details plus a closer look at "Watch Dogs 2" at this year's Electronics Entertainment Expo on June 13, 1PM PST / 4PM EST.
