'Titanfall 2' Single-Player Campaign: What's New And What to Expect

Respawn Entertainment announced that "Titanfall 2" is a single-player campaign during Electronic Arts' press conference at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3.

Apart from the improved multiplayer mode and the introduction of more titans, "Titanfall 2" will feature single-player mode for the first time.

One of the producers of "Titanfall 2," Drew McCoy, said that the development team had an "interesting situation" when they decided to include a single-player mode in the game.

"We had a great multiplayer game with 'Titanfall'," McCoy told Polygon. "We found ourselves with the problem that we already knew how the game worked, but had to decide how to make it function in single-player."

McCoy also said that players do not need to be knowledgeable with the "Titanfall" lore to be able to understand "Titanfall 2." The campaign will take place in the same universe and a few years later after the first title, but will not be a continuation of the first story.

The producer also said that the single player mode will feature the "same sort of freedom" found in "Titanfall" multiplayer, and would not feel like a typical cinematic single-player campaign.

According to the official Titanfall website, the story will focus on a Militia rifleman who aspires to be a pilot. The rifleman becomes stranded behind enemy lines, and would have to team up with a veteran Vanguard-class Titan to survive.

The team will also focus on the bond between man and Titan, as the story will be giving the spotlight on the once disposable beings in the single-player campaign.

"It's not a sentient being," McCoy said. "He isn't alive, but he has a personality and you get to know him."

McCoy added that the single-player story mode will not be "a bunch of training missions from multiplayer levels with bots." The campaign will form a huge chunk of the game, and will be played strictly offline.

In other news, Respawn, together with publisher Electronic Arts, unveiled the third robot, the sword-wielding Titan class Ronin, at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, according to PC Gamer.

The Titan was first seen at the "Titanfall 2" trailer released in April. The Titan, now revealed as the Ronin class, was shown sticking a huge sword into the ground during the teaser trailer.

PC Gamer also spotted the Titan carrying a long range shotgun called the Leadwall, so Ronin will not be strictly a melee fighter.

"Titanfall 2" will be released on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Pc on October 28.
